DETROIT, Oct. 12, 2025 ~ The Detroit Lions (4-2) came into a Sunday Night Football matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs (3-3) without both of their outside starting cornerbacks, and it showed against former MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes in a 30-17 loss in front of Taylor Swift at Arrowhead Stadium. On top of giving up over 250 passing yards and four total touchdowns to Mahomes, key penalties and drops cost Detroit crucial scoring opportunities.
On the first drive, Lions’ quarterback Jared Goff caught a touchdown pass from running back David Montgomery, but the score was called back due to illegal motion. They had to settle for a field goal. Then, All-Pro wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown dropped a fourth down throw, his first drop of 2025, which resulted in a touchdown drive from the Chiefs late in the second quarter.
The defense struggled to come up with stops, especially in the second half, allowing 17 points to be scored in 30 minutes. Defensive end Aidan Hutchinson was a bright spot for the unit though, recording a strip sack and a tackle for loss.

Oct. 13, 2025 ~ Lomas Brown, color analyst for the Detroit Lions Radio Network and co-host of WJR‘s “SportsWrap,” joins Chris, Lloyd, and Jamie to recap a tough 30-17 loss for the Detroit Lions against the Kansas City Chiefs.
(CONTINUED) Wide receiver Jameson Williams and tight end Sam LaPorta were the only Lions to score touchdowns in the game. LaPorta made an excellent grab with one hand to keep Detroit within winning distance in the second half while Williams took a direct hit before bouncing off of it and into the end zone for the team’s first touchdown of the night. Kansas City did not receive a penalty all game long, despite multiple questionable plays that could’ve resulted in yards lost.
Detroit safety Brian Branch got into a scuffle with Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster after the game, which will most likely result in a hefty fine for the star defensive back.
The Lions will return home to Ford Field next week for a Monday Night Football showdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-1) in an opportunity to get revenge for last year’s loss.
