WASHINGTON D.C., AUG. 27, 2025 ~ First Lady Melania Trump announced a new nationwide challenge Tuesday for K-12 students, challenging them to utilize AI technology.
Dubbed the “Presidential AI Challenge,” Trump announced the challenge in a video, asking students to use AI to solve issues in their local communities. she added that students should “unleash their imagination and showcase the spirit of American innovation,” believing that the U.S. will be at the forefront of this technology’s development.

(CONTINUED) However, AI continues to divide U.S. residents, especially as President Donald Trump continues to promote and push for the technology, further causing divisions along political ideological lines. Concerns include the environmental impact due to the high energy needed to power the technology, unauthorized use of written and visual copyrighted material to train generative AI tools, and the spread of misinformation.
Polling suggests that U.S. adults lean negatively towards their thoughts on AI. A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 71% of adults are concerned that these tools would put too many people out of a job permanently. A Pew Research poll found that a plurality of 43% adults believe AI will harm them more than help them.
