DETROIT, Aug. 22, 2025 ~ A routine morning at Henry Ford Hospital turned into a scene of chaos and tragedy when gunfire erupted in the basement, leaving one woman dead and sparking a citywide manhunt.
The victim, believed to be an employee of the hospital, was fatally shot by her ex-husband, 53-year-old Mario Green of Detroit, following a heated verbal confrontation. According to Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison, the incident unfolded just before 10 a.m. Friday, when Green allegedly produced a handgun and fired multiple rounds at his ex-wife in a restricted area of the hospital.
Witnesses inside described a chilling moment when a “code blue” alert blared over the loudspeakers, followed by frantic shouting and hospital staff rushing to clear hallways and secure patients.

Aug. 22, 2025 ~ WJR‘s Curtis Paul checks in with Kevin Dietz outside of Henry Ford Hospital following Friday morning’s active shooter incident.
(CONTINUED) The hospital was placed on lockdown as armed ATF agents and Detroit police swarmed the scene. Though the lockdown has since been lifted, the investigation remains active. Authorities say Green exited through the hospital’s front entrance at 9:55 a.m. and fled in a white 2011 Dodge Charger, which was found around 2 p.m. abandoned in Detroit. The suspect is still at large and is considered armed and dangerous.
This deadly shooting is not believed to be connected to another incident that occurred earlier Friday morning near the hospital, which left one person dead and another injured.
As the manhunt continues, Detroit police are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any sightings of Green. While the motive appears to stem from a domestic dispute, the fact that the shooting occurred inside a public hospital has prompted renewed concerns about security protocols and the broader issue of domestic violence.
