DETROIT, July 31, 2025 ~ The Tigers secured a much-needed sweep against the Diamondbacks after a concerning stretch of play.
Detroit defeated the Diamondbacks 5-1, 12-1, and 7-2. The first win of their current four-game winning streak was a 10-4 victory against the Blue Jays.
The Tigers’ bats broke out of their slump this series, and the return of Kerry Carpenter to the lineup provided a great boost for the ball club. In his first two games back, Carpenter went a combined 5-for-8 with a two-run homer in Wednesday’s win.

(CONTINUED) The team has also benefited from much more effective pitching during this stretch. Jack Flaherty, Trey Melton, and new Tigers acquisition Chris Paddack all delivered strong starts. Even with Casey Mize struggling on Tuesday and being pulled after two innings, reliever Brant Hurter came in and pitched three critical scoreless innings.
The club also received big contributions from Riley Greene, who went 3-for-5 on Tuesday with a home run and 2-for-4 on Wednesday. Wenceel Pérez was another major impact player, going 3-for-5 in Tuesday’s game and stealing two bases on Wednesday.
The offense scored 34 runs over their last four games, more than the 31 runs they scored in the previous thirteen games combined.
The Tigers have the day off today but return to action tomorrow, August 1, at 6:45 p.m. against the Phillies in Philadelphia. Flaherty will take the mound for the Tigers and will battle Phillies starter Ranger Suarez.
