What started as a radio contest win turned into a heartfelt act of generosity when Mike Murphy, a longtime 760 WJR listener, donated his prize — diamond earrings valued at $1,700 — to benefit the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit.
Murphy appeared on “‘JR Afternoon with Ryan Ermanni“ to share his story after winning a pair of 18k white gold diamond earrings from Ahee Jewelers through a WJR mobile app promotion. Rather than keeping the luxury item, Murphy and his wife decided to donate it to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen’s upcoming “SOCKS” silent auction, where the earrings will help raise funds for the organization’s community programs.

On this episode of “‘JR Afternoon with Ryan Ermanni,” meet Mike Murphy — the 760 WJR listener who turned his prize into a powerful act of generosity. Hear how he’s using his win to support Detroit’s Capuchin Soup Kitchen and why this cause hits close to home.
(CONTINUED) “We both came up with the idea to donate them to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen,” Murphy said during the interview. “It just seemed like a great opportunity to utilize this gift that was given to me and give back to the community.”
The donation is made in honor of Murphy’s Aunt Rose, who introduced the family to the Capuchins years ago through volunteer work. The Capuchin Soup Kitchen provides meals, clothing, and support services to Detroiters in need, and Murphy’s contribution will help further that mission.
