He proposes accelerating affordable housing through the PILOT Fast Track program, raising taxes on blighted properties, and creating “Main Streets” in every neighborhood to support small businesses and simplify permitting. His platform also emphasizes public safety and youth development, including expanding violence intervention programs like ShotStoppers and launching a Detroit Education Commission. This commission would support families and promote literacy and STEM education through initiatives like DAPCEP and Flip the Script.
With the Chamber’s endorsement, Durhal gains a powerful ally in the business community as he seeks to position himself as the candidate best equipped to lead Detroit into its next chapter of growth and equity. The mayoral election will conclude on Nov. 4, 2025, following the primary on Aug. 5.
