ANN ARBOR, July 14, 2025 ~ The University of Michigan is on the hunt for a new president, recently hiring a search firm to replace its last president, Santa Ono.
International search firm Spencer Stuart was selected to look for a new university president amid a tumultuous time for the school due to criticisms about its handling of pro-Palestine demonstrations on campus and President Donald Trump‘s threat of withholding federal funding. Former U-M Dearborn Chancellor Domenico Grasso is the current interim president.

(CONTINUED) “We’ll be doing a very broad look at candidates from all over the country, maybe all over the world,” said U-M Regent Sarah Hubbard. “No preconceived notions of who this person will be, but I’m sure there will be very important top qualities of people that need to align to our values of the university and the university community: strong leadership qualities (and) strong vision. The university is well-positioned to go into the future, continue to grow, and continue to be a top public university in the world.“
