DETROIT, July 14, 2025 ~ The Detroit Tigers made four picks during day one of the 2025 MLB Draft.
With the 24th pick in the first round, Detroit selected shortstop Jordan Yost out of Sickles High School in Tampa.
Yost was a late bloomer in the draft. His athleticism and ability to dominate the strike zone stood out to the Tigers’ front office.
Ten picks later, the Tigers selected catcher Michael Oliveto out of Hauppauge High School in New York.

(CONTINUED) After a strong combine and a beautiful left-handed swing, Oliveto became one of the Tigers’ favorite prospects at pick 34.
Yost and Oliveto have committed to playing baseball in college. Yost at the University of Florida and Oliveto at Yale. Both of these players are expected to turn pro based on their draft position.
At pick No. 62, Detroit selected right-handed pitcher Malachi Witherspoon out of Oklahoma, followed by Arizona State left-handed pitcher Ben Jacobs at No. 98 to close out Day One.
Day two of the MLB Draft is officially underway, beginning today, July 14, at 11:30 a.m. The Tigers will have 17 picks across rounds four through 20.
