MICHIGAN, July 14, 2025 ~ Two Detroit brothers are accused of harassing and extorting businesses in Ferndale by using similar business names to make false copyright infringement claims.
In a lawsuit filed by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel in Wayne County Circuit Court, brothers Eric and Daniel Vander Ley were accused of creating over a dozen fake businesses with similar names to many businesses in the Detroit suburb to extort them with false copyright claims. Some of the businesses targeted included the Downtown Ferndale Bike Shop, Como’s Restaurant, Urbanrest Brewing Co., and Bags and Beads.
