DETROIT, July 10, 2025 ~ The 101st Bayview Mackinaw Race is set to hit the waters of Lake Huron on Saturday, July 12. Hundreds of sailors populate Port Huron in anticipation for the world’s longest continuous freshwater yacht race, which ends at Mackinaw Island.
Weather is one of the most important factors in staying safe and gaining speed during the 48-hour nautical marathon.
“We prepare for all different weather conditions typically,” 29-year race veteran and “Sundance” owner Jack Gillis said. “Saturday is forecasting thunderstorms but we expect some sun as well. We’re looking forward to the race but our biggest concern is keeping everyone safe.”
