LANSING, July 9, 2025 ~ Certain food dyes would be banned in Michigan schools if a new bill approved by the State House is passed in the Senate and by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
House Bill No. 4369 would ban dyes Blues 1 and 2, Green 3, Red 40, and Yellow 6 from being sold or provided in school foods over concerns with health and behavior. “Food is medicine. We are what we eat, (and) making sure these things that are connected to hyperactivity,” State Rep. and bill sponsor Brad Paquette (R-Niles) told WJR. “We’re medicating children for these things, but we’re not approaching their nutrition. That’s backwards. So we’re taking a step in the right direction.“
