DETROIT, June 30, 2025 ~ Pistons sharpshooter Malik Beasley is under investigation for gambling.
On June 29, Shams Charania of ESPN reported that the “U.S. District Attorney’s Office is investigating Detroit guard Malik Beasley for allegedly gambling on NBA games and prop bets during the 2023–24 season.”
Beasley and the Pistons were closing in on a three-year, $42 million contract. According to Charania, those talks have now been put on hold.

(CONTINUED) Beasley’s attorney, Steve Haney, told Charania, “An investigation is not a charge. Malik is afforded the same right of the presumption of innocence as anyone else under the U.S. Constitution. As of now, he has not been charged with anything.”
Last year, Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter was handed a lifetime ban from the NBA for his involvement in a gambling scheme that centered around betting on the “under” for his own statistical performances in multiple games.
Beasley is coming off a season in which he averaged 16.3 points per game and shot 41.6 percent from three-point range.
With negotiations with free agents set to begin at 6 p.m. ET today, this breaking news could significantly impact both how the Pistons conduct their offseason moves and Beasley’s future in the NBA.
