DETROIT, June 20, 2025 ~ The John Shippen Men’s Invitational will tee off for the fifth consecutive year on Saturday, June 21 at the Detroit Golf Club. The two-day event provides exposure opportunities for the top Black men’s and women’s golfers in the country. The tournament will feature local talent such as Battle Creek native and former Michigan State golfer Andrew Walker.
“It’s just an amazing opportunity to be able to play on a PGA Tour Championship level venue and to be able to vie for a spot to play on PGA Tour,” Walker said on “Opportunity Detroit.” “It’s really an awesome opportunity that brings the best talent from around the country in the minority golf world and really gives us an opportunity to showcase what we’ve got.”

June 22, 2025 ~ The John Shippen Men’s Invitational is underway this weekend at the Detroit Golf Club, and Andrew Walker, a Battle Creek native and Michigan State graduate, is playing in it. He joins the show to discuss the tournament.
(CONTINUED) The field of 17 golfers will include past victors Willie Mack III (2024) and Chase Johnson (2023). The format for the event is a 36-hole, stroke play competition.
Sunday’s winner will have a chance to compete in the PGA Tour’s Rocket Classic next weekend, June 26-29. Mack III and Johnson both made the cut the last two years.
