Michigan Organizations Work to Help Metro Detroit Children with Summer Learning, Scholarships

June 1, 2025 ~ This summer, United Community Family Services–Chaldean American Ladies of Charity (UCFS-CALC) will introduce its inaugural Summer Study Camp, aimed at combating the “summer slide” and ensuring academic momentum for local students who come from low-income families. Kristin Olmedo, president of the UCFS-CALC, joins Michigan Voices to discuss this.

The Midwest Independent Retailers Foundation (MIRF), the charitable arm of the Midwest Independent Retailers Association (MIRA), is announcing it will award $50,000 in college scholarships to 25 outstanding students. Established in 1999, MIRF is committed to supporting education and fostering opportunity within the food, beverage, and petroleum industries. Bill Wild, the CEO of MIRF, joins Michigan Voices.
