EAST LANSING, Feb. 26, 2025 ~ No. 8 Michigan State basketball (23-5) junior point guard Tre Holloman nailed a half-court shot at the buzzer to win 58-55 on the road against No. 16 Maryland. Holloman scored all nine of his points in the final 20 minutes to keep the Spartans at the top of the Big Ten (14-3) standings with three games remaining.
Freshman guard Jase Richardson led MSU in scoring for the third straight game, scoring 15 points while grabbing eight rebounds. All 10 players who hit the court managed to reach the scoring column for MSU.
The defense from the green and white was hounding all night long, holding the Terrapins to 31% shooting from the field and 20% from beyond the arc. The Spartans also didn’t allow a single point to be scored from Maryland’s bench, while Michigan State recorded 23 of its own, including the winner from Holloman.

(CONTINUED) The Spartans won the battle down low in multiple ways. The team outrebounded Maryland 45-33 with a 13-4 advantage on the offensive boards. Energy on the glass converted to second chance opportunities, as MSU recorded 10 points off of misses. 28 of MSU’s 55 points came in the paint, while Maryland only managed 16.
Senior center Szymon Zapala had the best game out of all the big men for the Spartans, scoring seven points while grabbing six rebounds. Maryland’s front court, considered one of the best in the conference, only tallied a combined 14 points from senior forward Julian Reece and freshman Derik Queen.
Michigan State will head back to East Lansing this weekend for a big matchup against No. 11 Wisconsin to try and keep the four game win streak alive. Coverage on 760 WJR is set to start at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 2.
