ANN ARBOR, Feb. 21, 2025 ~ No. 14 Michigan State basketball took over in the second half, outscoring No. 12 Michigan 41-24 during the final 20 minutes in the 75-62 win over the Wolverines. The Spartans walked out of the Crisler Center victorious for the second year in a row on Friday night to secure the top spot in conference play with four games left on the schedule.
Freshman guard Jase Richardson led the way with 21 points and six rebounds, shooting an efficient 7-12 from the field. Junior guard Tre Holloman followed with 18 points, including three huge 3-pointers to help turn the tide as the second half progressed.
“Tre Holloman did a hell of a job and Jase Richardson was unbelievable,” head coach Tom Izzo told WJR Correspondent Nick Lundberg after the game. “And man, I thought our guys did a hell of a job responding after some tough runs.”
About midway through the first half, Michigan exploded for a 15-0 run. The Spartans never wavered, slowly climbing back until a 12-2 burst around the same time in the final 20 minutes put the team in the driver’s seat for the remainder of the game
Senior guard Jaden Akins finished the night with 11 points, including this thunderous dunk to secure the win in the final minute.

(CONTINUED) The Spartans out-rebounded the Wolverines 34-25 despite foul trouble from three different big men. MSU hit the offensive glass hard, securing a 14-7 advantage.
After a rough first half showing, Michigan State shot 6-12 from beyond the arc in the second half to push their rate to 41% for the night.
Senior center Vladislav Goldin led Michigan in scoring with 21, while junior forward Danny Wolf led his team in both rebounds and assists, tallying eight and seven respectively.
The green and white will hit the road this week for a game against No. 20 Maryland to continue the end of Feb. gauntlet. Coverage on 760 WJR will start at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
