DETROIT, Feb. 15, 2025 ~ First time All-Star and Detroit Pistons point guard Cade Cunningham took part in the Starry 3-Point Contest Saturday night, losing in the first round. Cunningham recorded 16 points in the shootout.
Overall, Cunningham placed sixth above Los Angeles Clippers shooting guard Norman Powell and Brooklyn Nets small forward Cam Johnson. Fellow first time All-Star and Miami Heat shooting guard Tyler Herro took home the trophy.
After winning MVP of the Rising Stars game in 2022, Cunningham made his first All-Star Saturday night appearance at the 3-Point Contest.

(CONTINUED) Cunningham became the fourth Piston to ever be selected to participate in the 3-Point Contest. The last player to be invited was shooting guard Rip Hamilton in 2008. Point guard Chauncey Billups appeared in both the 2004 and 2006 shootouts.
Although not selected, Detroit shooting guard Malik Beasley made the case to represent the team during the first half of the season. He currently is second in the NBA in 3-pointers made with 216 and has already broken the previous franchise record (211) for makes beyond the arc in a single regular season.
Fellow Piston Ausar Thompson also took part in the NBA All-Star Weekend festivities. He performed in the Rising Stars game for Team M Friday night, losing in the semifinals.
Cunningham will make his first NBA All-Star Game appearance Sunday, Feb. 16 for Kenny’s Young Stars. Tipoff against Chuck’s Global Stars is set for 8:20 p.m.
