EAST LANSING, Feb. 15, 2025 ~ No. 11 Michigan State basketball closed Saturday night’s game at Illinois on a 15-0 run in the final seven minutes, winning 79-65 to sweep the season series. Head coach Tom Izzo officially broke Bob Knight’s Big Ten win record with 354 in the Spartans 20th victory of the season.
Junior forward Jaxon Kohler led all players with 23 points and 10 rebounds, his sixth double-double of the season. Kohler tallied four 3-pointers in five attempts during his career-high scoring performance. Junior guard Tre Holloman followed with 14 points, rebounding from a lackluster performance against Indiana.
The Fighting Illini started the game on fire, converting 11-14 field goals to begin the night with a 16 point lead. The green and white slowly fought back, taking the lead with a 42-24 second half scoring differential.
After the game, the entire locker room was fired up to celebrate breaking the record with Izzo.

Michigan State shot efficiently from both the field and the three-point line, hitting on a rate of 49% and 42% respectively.
MSU had the edge down low as 40 of their 79 points were accounted for in the paint. They also did well to convert off Illinois turnovers, scoring 21 points off 11 Fighting Illini mistakes.
