Trump’s rant to reporters threw blame at Democrat policies and diversity hiring practices at the FAA for the mid-air collison that killed over 60 people. When a reporter asked for evidence that DEI hiring practices caused the crash, Trump did not provide any, only saying, “It just could have been.” Former Transportation Secretary and Michigan resident Pete Buttigieg called Trump’s comments “despicable” is a post on X.
In a harrowing scene on Wednesday evening near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, a Bombardier CRJ700 passenger jet operated by PSA Airlines for American Airlines collided midair with a Blackhawk Sikorsky H-60 helicopter.

(CONTINUED) D.C. Fire and EMS Chief John Donnelly told reporters Thursday morning that none of the 64 airline passengers and three helicopter passengers are expected to have survived the crash Wednesday night, with Trump confirming the deaths of all passangers during the Thursday press conference. The FAA confirmed that the regional jet, which originated from Wichita, Kansas, was approaching the airport when the collision occurred.
The crash led to a complete halt of all takeoffs and landings at the airport, though flights at Reagan National Airport resumed at around 11 a.m.
Authorities have confirmed a transition from a rescue operation to a recovery operation, with reports suggesting that more than 30 bodies have been recovered from the Potomac River. Several members of the Skating Club of Boston were on the commercial plane, returning from an event in Kansas.
The National Transportation Safety Board is conducting an investigation into what caused the crash, which is expected to take at least 30 days. Trump suggested that the crash “should have been prevented” on Truth Social.
