DETROIT, Dec. 5, 2024 ~ Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan is hoping to offer a “third choice” for voters in the 2026 Michigan gubernatorial election with his independent campaign.
“In the last year or two, it has gotten so toxic in Lansing trying to pass anything,” Duggan said on WJR. “When you have the Republicans and the Democrats so narrowly divided, every issue becomes ultra-partisan. After the election, there just seemed to be a feeling in this country that the Republican and Democratic parties were leaving a lot of people out, and I thought there might be a path to a third choice.“

(CONTINUED) When asked if he was worried about raising funds without the backing of the major political parties, Duggan said, “There are pluses and minuses to everything, but based on the reaction I’m getting so far, there are a lot of people very excited about the idea of a third choice. They don’t think the two parties should have a grip on who you get to vote for.“
