Michigan health officials are continuing to express concerns about the surge of COVID-19 cases in the state. The latest figures showed there were 3,792 new cases of the virus and 31 additional deaths. The past three weeks have set new case records. Saturday’s figures were the highest daily report since the start of the pandemic. To date, Michigan has recorded 178,180 cases of the corona virus and 7,340 deaths.
There are growing concerns that the surge in cases of the virus comes as large crowds are expected at polling booths for tomorrow’s election. State health and election officials say numerous steps have been taken to ensure that safety measures are observed such as mask wearing and social distancing. Health officials also are urging voters to use hand sanitizers before going into vote and after you have voted
New regulations for dealing with the surge in corona virus cases are taking effect today. Restaurants, schools and other businesses must begin keeping accurate records of the names and phone numbers of individuals so that they can be contacted in case of an outbreak. Restaurant seating at a single table will be limited to six people. The number of people allowed at indoor gatherings has been reduced from 500 to 50. This includes weddings, parties and banquets which occur in non-residential settings.
The Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association has expressed concerns about the liability restaurants might face in regards to the collecting and managing logs of patrons names and phone numbers. Many owners say they see it as an invasion of a customer’s privacy.
