The U-S Department of Justice is seeking information on all COVID-19 cases from nursing homes in Michigan, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. It’s Civil Rights Division is trying to determine whether an investigation will be launched to determine whether the rights of residents of the state-run homes were the victims of orders from the states that required nursing homes to admit corona virus patients, often without adequate testing. Investigators say this may have resulted in the deaths of thousands of elderly nursing home patients. Michigan officials say they didn’t force any homes to take COVID-19 patients that couldn’t be cared for properly. Gov. Whitmer and Gov. Cuomo of New York issued a joint statement saying they think the request is a political move by the Trump administration timed for the GOP National Convention.
Michigan reported there were 761 new cases of the corona virus and 7 additional deaths. Yesterday’s figures bring the state’s death toll to 6,424 among its 99,200 cases. If you added probable cases to the totals, the state has had 109,480 cases and 6,690 deaths.
