Biz Leaders Dispute ‘Bullying’ Remark By Guv On CV

Owners of Michigan gyms, theatres and bowling alleys are upset that Governor Whitmer is still opposed to their reopening in the lower part of the state in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. In a briefing yesterday afternoon the governor said she would not be bullied into allowing them to reopen while it is still unsafe to do so. Owners of the gyms and theatres have stepped up their pressure to allow them to reopen. Whitmer said she and state officials are assessing whether there are safety protocols in place to allow them to resume business. But until then, they are to stay closed. Rich Studley, president of the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, tells WJR he is surprised by Whitmer’s response, saying that their letter to the governor was courteous and respectful, and was not bullying.
