Detroit public school students will get some relief from tests when they go back to school.
Detroit Public Community Schools is dropping about half of the tests that students will face in the coming school year. Teachers and parents have told the new superintendent and staff that constant tests contain duplication and much of it is irrelevant to classroom learning.
129 tests were given to students last year. This year it’ll be 69. No exams required by the state will be affected.
Teachers say this will give them more time to develop and carry out actual lessons.
The new policy goes to the school board for approval.
