A bill that would block Michigan city’s from adopting controversial ‘sanctuary city’ policies could be sent to the state house for a vote within the next two weeks.
Under the measure, county’s, city’s and townships would not be permitted to adopt or enforce local laws that would limit communicating or cooperating with federal officials concerning the immigration status of an individual.
Meantime, a democratic candidate for governor, Abdul El-Sayed wants to make Michigan a sanctuary state for undocumented immigrants.
It is an effort to stop President Trump’s call to increase enforcement and deportations of immigrants who are in the country illegally.
Giving a state sanctuary status would mean the state would not invest its own dollars and its own police force and its own corrections money to enforce a crackdown on illegals living in the state.
