Pittsfield Township has settled it’s bitter fight with an Islamic academy which wants to build a new school there.
The Michigan Islamic Academy will get $1.7 million from the township and will be allowed to build the school following a 4 year long legal battle.
The academy sued after Pittsfield denied a zoning request for the K through 12 school.
The township was sued in 2015 by the U.S. Justice Department, which cited the township for religious discrimination.
The settlement ends the federal lawsuit.
Pittsfield Township denies any wrongdoing.
The settlement was recommended by the township’s insurance company.
