Charges against a gunman have been upgraded for the killing of Detroit Police Sgt. Ken Steil. 21 year old Marquis Cromer is scheduled to go before a judge to face first degree murder charges today.
Sgt. Steil passed away Saturday at St. John Hospital from complications after being shot while chasing Cromer last Monday. Cromer was wanted for shooting his father and for a carjacking at gunpoint.
The 46-year-old sergeant leaves behind a wife and two little boys.
A vigil was held for Sgt. Steil outside of the 9th Police Precinct. Citizens are adding to a growing memorial to the fallen officer.
Visitation for Sgt. Steil will be held tomorrow and Thursday at Wujek-Calcaterra Funeral Home in Sterling Heights. The funeral mass will be held Friday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores.
