Somebody borrowed two books about basketball player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar from the Capitol Area District Library in Lansing in November 1976.
The books were “Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: The Story of Lew Alcindor” and “Jabbar: Giant of the NBA.”
If you’ve been waiting for those books, we have some good news. They’ve been returned.
A mystery reader put those two old books in the return drop box at the Lansing library. They were due on December 2nd, 1976. They are more than 39 years overdue.
The library officials say they don’t have a record of who borrowed the books, and the books are too old to return to the shelves.
If the mystery borrower thought he or she was avoiding a big fine, the library says they charge 20 cents a day and max out at 6 dollars, or the cost of the book. However, the fees would not apply to the borrower, because in 1976 they didn’t charge for overdue books.
