An 11 year old boy was struggling in the water of a small lake in West Michigan. His 7 year old friend jumped in to help. The 11 year old got out safely. The 7 year old did not.
Nataneal Escobar of Grand Rapids was with his family at a church outing at Crockery Lake. He was playing in a marked swimming area with two other children, 8 and 11, when the 11 year old began to struggle.
Little Natanael jumped into the water. The 11 year old got out. But Natanael was not able to make it back to shore.
Police say the boy was under water for just over an hour before a dive team found his body in 12 feet of water. He was dead at the scene.
