The 700 jobs that will be cut by Dow Chemical in what the company calls the Great Lakes Bay region will mostly be in the Midland area where Dow is headquartered, according to the state. Officials are promising support for the area, as Dow will eliminate 8 percent of it’s Michigan workforce, a result of Dow’s total takeover of Dow Corning. Dow is merging with DuPont. But the job cuts are not part of the merger, which could bring more cutbacks and another jolt to mid Michigan. The newly formed company plans to split into 3 companies, pending approval by regulators.
Globally, Dow Chemical plans to reduce it’s workforce by 4 percent. Dow is one of Michigan’s largest employers.
