3 people are in custody and police are looking for another man for the kidnapping and murder of 13 year old Deontae Mitchell. His body was found in a field on Detroit’s east side. Police arrested 45-year-old Gregory Walker and his girlfriend at a Days Inn in Toledo.
They say Walker was drunk and is the man seen in surveillance video snatching the boy.
Police believe he’s the one who killed Mitchell.
Police arrested 30-year-old Ernest Coleman and are still looking for 51-year-old Roy Portis, but aren’t saying why they are connected to the case.
Strangers showed up at to vigils on the city’s east side, and joined with family and friends of the boy.
Dozens gathered near the corner of Harper and Baldwin, where his body was found Thursday morning. There was also a gathering of more than 100 people at Nino’s Market, the store where Mitchell was kidnapped late Tuesday night.
An autopsy will be performed on Deontae’s body today.
