
Detroit residents, including undocumented immigrants, could soon be able to get municipal ID cards. City Council signed off on creating the ID card program aimed at those who are reluctant or are ineligible to apply for a state ID but want access to services. The pilot program starts in August, an office will open in Southwest Detroit will help people there get the cards.
Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan said, “No one deserves to live in the shadows of our society. This is everyone’s city, and everyone deserves to enjoy all of the opportunities Detroit has to offer. This program ensures that all Detroiters, no matter their status or housing situation, have access to those opportunities.”
