A new report from the the Michigan Department of Health an Human services indicates there was an additional case of Legionnaire’s Disease resulting in death from 2015. The new case was identified after conducting a review of all deaths from Legionnaire’s Disease in Michigan.
“To date, 88 cases and ten deaths have been identified in total for the 2014 and 2015 outbreaks in Genesee County,” said Eden Wells, M.D., Chief Medical Executive with the MDHHS. “While legionellosis is not uncommon, it’s important that any person who is having symptoms of respiratory illness let their doctor know right away.”
The deaths in Genesee County are during a period that corresponds with the use of Flint River water. The disease can be contracted through a water-borne bacteria.
