School districts have begun checking lead levels in some of their old buildings in response to the Flint water emergency. Howell Public Schools started testing their water for lead and an elementary school showed elevated levels. Elevated lead levels were indicated at two test sites at Northwest Elementary School. The district brought in water coolers until the problem can be found.
The district conducted tests in all of its eleven buildings and received results for four of them. Southeast, Southwest and Challenger elementary schools came back within the EPA’s acceptable levels. The results for the remaining seven buildings are forthcoming.
